World Service Cargo (WSC) is a Practice Firm (PF) that provides foreign trained and skilled women/men the opportunity to obtain work experience in a Canadian business environment.

World Service Cargo has two divisions—one that provides logistics services and one that markets and distributes a line of one-of-a-kind jewelry. Both divisions are modeled after the real business activities of existing organizations. All business activities are conducted amongst an extensive network of over 4000 Practice Firms worldwide (40+ of which are in Canada).

Although Practice Firms operate in a simulated market economy—with no actual transfer of goods, services, or money— all business activities and legal requirements match the best practices of any Canadian business or service provider. Marketing plans are developed and implemented, market research is conducted and acted on, financial records maintained, budgets monitored, goods and services bought and sold, invoices generated, bills paid, and new employees hired.

Prospective employees of World Service Cargo must demonstrate to us that they have the qualities and skills for the position for which they are applying. All our hired staff have been subjected to and passed a comprehensive round of interviews.

Participants benefit from working in an environment that offers both a service (logistics and transportation) and a product (semi-precious jewelry). They are exposed to all commercial activities (i.e., electronic sales and importing/exporting) associated with each sector. A variety of self-directed and team activities enable them to use and enhance their existing skills. The participants also become familiar with Canadian work culture, practices and expectations, as well as general and industry-specific business terminology.

Participants (who we call “staff members”) are expected to adhere to the policies and procedures of our firm, and to conduct themselves as they would in any business environment. The participants are supervised by a management team who oversees the seven departments (Logistics, Human Resources, IT, Administration, Sales/Marketing, and Warehousing.) Each incumbent undergoes regular performance evaluations during their tenure, as well as an exit interview when they leave.

Staff members are provided with the opportunity and the resources to spend up to 25% of their time on job search activities during our 9 to 5 workday. Our monthly success rates have been as high as eighty percent.
